Reinvention

The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes.” - Marcel Proust

Its been a while friends, though I did try posting last week, some sort of dodgy error. Anyway, thought I’d sit down – after a long while and get a cheeky post in.

Where have I been? Well, no where really, just been riding the tidal wave of life.

What have I been doing? Same, nothing really – just getting by, learning new things, finding new understandings, looking for more avenues of interest.

What’s new? Now this, this is long answer, lets just say the things I’ve experienced from this post and the last were character building. I’ve waded through many a gunk, only to realise I didn’t really need to. Now, I could elaborate but to be fair I’m too embarrassed, live and learn.

Every now again, what I like to do is go through a transformation, a reinvention of self – so that life doesn’t become too stagnant. I believe in reinvention as it allows a person to shed their mental baggage and have a different perception on life. And, I believe I have an avenue, there is an opportunity pending in the ether, which once solidified, I will inform you of. But, if large changes aren’t your thing – don’t fret, make small changes. Like a snowball, will gather speed and mass and eventually will show you your path.

For many a moon I’ve tried to create this effect, to now resolve, until now. Given that this is uncharted territory I am literally petrified, BUT hopeful. We must leap into the unknown to discover that which we’ve lost over the years…our self.

Muda

“Bushido is realized in the presence of death. This means choosing death whenever there is a choice between life and death. There is no other reasoning.”

Yamamoto Tsunetomo

Ever since I can remember I have been in love with the Orient, China & Japan, the culture and history has always left me dazed. I am not much of a historian nor can I dictate certain known philosophies from these amazing civilisations. I can, however, tell you of what I do know and it mainly surrounds the way of the warrior better known as Bushido. Now, there have been many, many western films that have besmirched and ridiculed the majesty and tradition of these cultures.

If you watch most films these days concerned with Japan or China’s history it is an utter mockery. I hate these films, where there is a blundering fool who clearly is of western heritage and no warrior but is the hero, the indiginous people are badly dubbed and are made to look inferior to the western fool. A few films spring to mind but the whole point is the philosophy and etiquette.

I love the Samurai, even more so I love Ninjas, according to the culture and philosophy they are lowly servants. This always confused me, how can something this awesome with so much skill be discarded at a moments notice, the whole point of a Samurai is to die, same goes for a ninja. Tell me, where is the soul in that? Whenever I hear that a Samurai must end his life, Harakiri, out of shame or defeat I could never get my head around that. Seriously speaking, killing yourself like that was an utter waste or as the Japanese would say Muda.

Personally I wouldn’t want a samurai of mine dead after defeat, nor do I think defeat is death. You learn from mistakes, I would take the opportunity of defeat to remove the waste in my life, to become better. If you were unfit and, lets say socially inhibited, felt the need to improve you’d change. You’d hopefully want a better lifestyle, look into exercise and healthy eating. You have all read something similar to what I’m saying before but its all dependant on application.

I’m going to apply the principal of Muda to my website, if I find the need to remove waste in order to improve features then you will see a change. Some things certainly are working but as this website grows it contents will readily be modified. So just keep watching this space and things are bound to improve.
